Just want to thank my friends for helping me with the 2nd folk gathering held in my school on 29/4/05.

I would like to thank Chris and Billy for coming again, and I'm very pleased to have Derek with us this time. Haha.. What a wonderful ABCD Folk Club.

I don't really have time to conclude the information provided by my students. I gave them a survey form to fill in after the gathering, and they wrote down their favourite songs and comments.

Chris, thanks for bringing along your camera. Would you please post a few of the photos taken that day to share our happiness with our friends here.

One more time, a million thanks.

Daniel

Dear Alice,

I've taken an EMI course in the HKIEd three years ago,
in that course I've shared the song 'Don't Laugh At Me'
mentioned above by Dear Uncle Michael with my
classmates, when I returned to shcool, I've also shared
the song 'A Man Of Constant Sorrow' with my students.
Both songs are suitable for F.2 students as the lyrics are
simple. The lyrics of the song 'Don't Laugh At Me' can be
found in the other thread 'Peter Yarrow, ©M¿Ó®Õ¶éµ¼Ö·|
(2005¦~¥|¤ë¥|¤é¡A»´ä·s¥ì§Q¨F§BÅé¨|À])', I just post
the lyrics of the song 'A Man Of Constant Sorrow' here
for your reference. In fact, there are a number of songs
from Peter, Paul and Mary for you to choose, they can
be understood easily by F.2 students, for example,
'Where Have All The Flowers Gone', 'The Cruel War', etc.

I am a man of constant sorrow
I've seen troubles all my day
I'm goin' back to California,
Place where I was partly raised.

All through this world,
I'm bound to ramble.
Through storm and wind,
Through sleet and rain

I'm bound to ride,
That northern railroad.
Perhaps I'll take
The very next train.

Your friends, they say
I am a stranger
You'll never see
My face no more

There is just one
Promise that's given
We'll sail on
God's golden shore

I am a man of constant sorrow
I've seen troubles all my day
I'm goin' back to California,
Place where I was partly raised.

Re: «ç¼Ë±À°Ê»´ä¤U¤@¥Nªº¥Áºq¹B°Ê¡H
Dear Friends,

I'm preparing for an assignment for my education course. I have decided to choose the topic of teaching English through songs. I'll have to choose a song, and design a lesson with it. So, I have to examine the value of learning in terms of the language of the lyrics and the meaning of the song. I have not decided which song to use so far. I went to the library yesterday to look for information, and I was delighted to find that there were a number of books and articles on teaching English through songs. I found a number of articles written by English teachers from all over the world. There was an English teacher from UK who was teaching a group of German teenagers. He mentioned a number of songs he had used, and there're a number of them I don't know. The songs he used included "Nowhere Man", "If I could", "Return to Sender", "Blowing in the Wind", "Goodbye Rainbow" etc.

I am excited to get started, and I would appreciate it if you can offer some advice. I'm planning to choose a song and use it for both my Form 2 and Form 4 classes. Any suggestions? After deciding which song to use, I have to analyze the background and the meaning of the song. I'm sure that Uncle Michael can help me a lot with his abundant information! After that, I have to design a lesson and use it in my class. Finally, I have to write a report on what has happened in my class and what students have learnt.

It's a pleasure to read the materials written by writers who believe in the value of using songs in English lessons. And I was happy to take part in a sharing session with other teachers in my class who have also used songs in their teaching experience. We are all impressed by one another's experience, and some teachers have decided to use songs more often in class after our discussion.

I have a lot of expectations on this assignment. I'm hoping to learn more about songs and get more insight into using songs in my teaching career. I also hope that more teachers will be convinced to use songs in their teaching routine. Last but not least, I hope that more students can benefit from songs and learn to appreciate both the music and the language.
