很多謝Dear Sim及Sonar給我們Hotel California的分享.......... 這些年來，有關Hotel California的故事真的見過很多，Dear Sim也給我們很多的資料........... 以下The Eagles的元老Glenn Frey當年談及Hotel California的一次Interview，也許會給我們更多對Hotel California的理解吧........... What happened with Hotel California was Don Felder, the under rated genius guitar player in our band and he did not have the name of Joe Walsh, but definitely just an incredible player. He used to make instrumental demos at his house and on a tape of about seven ideas, was what was to become the track of Hotel California. And Don and I heard the tape and said gosh... this is like a Spanish Reggae Rock, this is really a bizarre mix of musical influences, this is great. At the time we were also quite fond of Steely Dan and listening to a lot of their records. And one of the things that impressed us about Steely Dan was that they would say anything in their songs and it did not have to necessarily make sense you know, they would just, sort of...they called it jokes sculpture.. And well we thought of this Hotel California, we started thinking of there would be very cinematic to do it, sort of like the Twilight Zone. You just have a ..., one line says there is a guy on the highway, you know the next line says there is a hotel in the distance, then there is a woman in there and she walks in. You know it is sort..., it is just all one shot, not necessarily you know, just sort of strong together and you sort of draw your own conclusions from it. So we are sort of trying to expand our lyrical horizons and just try to take out something in the bizarre as Steely Dan did that. The music was entirely written by Felder and Don and I wrote the chorus and Don wrote most of the versus. One more thing about Hotel California, we had to cut it three times. It was very difficult for us to get it on tape. We cut it the first time and it was in the wrong key. Don were not to sing the rough vocal and said "it's too low" So we worked on to cut it again the next day, cause we had already been working on it for a couple of days. So we waited three weeks later to cut it again in Miami in the right key, but we did not get the right feel and when we were done with this ah ... that ain't quite right... So we went back to Los Angeles three months after that and recorded the track again and finally got it right. And of course it was worth the work. The concept of the album came about when we started on the song Hotel California. You know.. we had been called the quintessential California Country Rock band. And as soon as Don came of with the title Hotel California, we knew that that should be the blanket you know, for the whole concept. You know basically that record explores the under belly of success, the darker side of Paradise. Which was sort of what we were experiencing in Los Angeles at that time. So that just sort of became a metaphor for the whole world and for everything you know. And we just decided to make it Hotel California. So with a microcosm of everything else going on around us. Hotel California and the last Resort and a few of these songs we could not write on, all the sudden, you could not write any song for this record. Once we had a couple of tunes, each other song had to fit in some way you know, the way that was Hotel California.

每次大家講起Hotel California，不知怎的都使我想起有一次被邀請到一教會去唱歌，那位主持人細細聲給我說"唱甚麽歌都可以，但最好不要唱Hotel California........." 事實上，這些年來，在世界各地都有朋友發表了一個學說，流行音樂就是撒旦魔鬼的化身........ 'Subliminal'及'Backward Masking'這兩個名詞，我們也許不會太陌生，Hotel California就是常提到的其中一個例子，以下這一篇曾帶來不少回嚮的"撒旦與流行歌的關係"，不知道大家可有印象呢.......... 撒旦與流行歌的關係 ·「我的民因無知識而滅亡。」(何西亞書4:6) 從整個世界的局勢去看，任何人都意識到，世界正高速地走向一個毀滅的方向，末日已到！！ 主基督的審判逼近，撒旦──這個千古以來，一直在搞對抗、搞破壞的敵擋者，也知道自己時日無多，正瘋狂地，傾盡其來自地獄的黑暗力量去迷惑世人，牠相信那一天（即哈米吉多頓大戰），會積蓄足夠的力量與神決一死戰。 今日，牠正透過種種技倆，去迷惑世人，叫人向牠下拜，其中一種甚有威力的武器就是音樂。牠用音樂把牠的性格，刻在每一個城市中。以香港為例，香港給人的感覺是──空虛、無奈、疏離、盲目、不公平、永不疲倦、講享受、追求新奇事物、愛情（情慾）至上........。 首先，我們要知道，遠在地球和人類被創造之先，神在天上造了一位天使長，並賦予其豐富演奏音樂的能力。牠的名字叫路西弗(Lucifer)，意謂「明亮之星」、「早晨之子」。牠受膏在音樂上去服事神，帶領天上所有天使去讚美敬拜父神，牠可以說是天上詩班的指揮（參結28: 14、16），在牠身體裏，有精美的鼓苗，及現今我們所知的一切樂器（參結28: 13，賽14: 11）。後來牠因驕傲而墜落，牠要高舉牠的寶座在神眾星之上，並要與神問等（參賽14: 13-14）。牠極渴望如天父一樣受天使崇拜，結果被神摔在地上，天上被牠誘惑的三分之一的天使，也一同被摔下去（參啟12: 3、7-9，路10: 18，結28: 16-17）。「早晨之子啊！你可竟從天墜落。」（賽14: 12）。牠就是撒旦，今利用原本單用來敬拜父神的音樂，去迷惑世人，去滿足其被敬拜的慾望。 在此，我們要謹記，神創造音樂唯一(The one and the only one)的目的，就是敬拜並高舉萬軍之耶和華。現在讓我們從一些外國的流行歌手、歌曲，去揭露出撒旦的詭計。希望大家能舉一反三，去明白香港流行歌的邪惡一面。 「我絕對相信搖滾樂(Rock and Roll)一直以來都是屬於魔鬼的音樂，你不能說服搖滾樂與牠無關。」 此語出自第一個公開承認自己是同性戀的外國流行歌手──大衛寶兒(David Bowie)。搖滾樂(Rock and Roll)，是外國樂壇的主流，相等於香港的流行歌曲。 美國一位牧師Jeff Godwin在他著作" The Devil's Disciples "公佈了他的研究所得，發現撒旦在流行歌曲中，隱藏著兩個陰險的潛意識洗腦方法： 一 ) Subliminal 一種可以跨過人意識(Consciousness )之防衛網，去破壞人類的下意識(Subconscious)及潛意識(Unconscious)領域的一種技術。其方法是用嘈吵的音樂聲、叫聲、歌聲，去覆蓋著另一把聲音所唱的另一些歌詞。 1. 在1956年，美國有一間叫Subliminal Project Company，嘗試在戲院放映中的電影裏，每15秒就加一格菲林「可樂」的圖像，但在人的視覺中，是無法看到一閃而過的可樂鏡頭，但當散場後，竟發覺不少觀眾有想去飲「可樂」的慾望。 2. 在1978年，美國亦有一個實驗報告發表，於37間超級市場裏，在播放中的輕音樂裏面同時有一把肉耳聽不到的微聲在說：「你很誠實，不會偷東西，不會犯法......」結果，在九個月後，超級市場高賣的損失減少了四百多萬。 3. 外間不少助人戒煙的音樂CD、錄音帶，也用了這種技術。在大自然的海浪聲中，隱藏著一把微聲說：「你不喜歡抽煙，你討厭煙味..........」 以下的例子，是撒旦刻意所作的安排，請細看英文歌詞。 4. Pink Floyd的一首歌叫"Sheep"，在很嘈吵的金屬機械操作聲覆蓋下，竟然發現有另一把聲音，唱著非常褻瀆神的詩篇23篇的撒旦版，內容如下： " The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down through pastures green. He leadeth me the silent water by; with bight knives he releaseth my soul. He makes me to hang on hooks in high places. He converteth me to lamb cuttets. For Lo, He hath great power and great hunger. When cometh the day we lowly one, through quiet reflection and great dedication master the art of karate, we shall raise up and then we shall make the bugger's eyeswater." 5. Queen其中一首歌"You are not the one"，用慢速去細聽，發現在結他與鼓聲的背後，可清楚聽到："Our Father, who art in heaven, Satan！"一首認撒旦為父的歌。 6. Led Zeppelind的一首"Who are you" ------- "Yes, I know the secret that with in your mind, you think all the people who worship you are blind, you just like big brother give us your cross when you laid it up, you just cast our soul into the dust."很明顯這是一首敵基督的歌。 二 ) Backward Masking 是指用錄音室技術，把一些特別的歌詞，用倒轉的方向錄入一首歌中，在正常播放下是無法聽出，但把錄音帶或唱片以逆轉方向播放，就可聽到有另一把聲音唱另一些歌詞。這是一種巧妙的方法，把歌詞直接送入人的潛意識中，人用正常意識網是無從發現及過濾。在不覺間，人就完全吸收了歌詞之內容訊息，其行為、性格及習慣就被扭轉過來。 1. Led Zeppelin的一首"When Electricity Came to Arkansas！"，倒轉來播是："Satan！Satan！Satan！He is God！He is God！He is God！" 2. Eagles（以印度一邪教名為其樂隊名稱）於1969年的一首在San Francisco's First Church of Satan中所錄的撒旦教名曲" Hotel California "，相信你一定聽過，倒轉播出來的歌詞竟是：" Satan had help. He organized his own religion."撒旦的計劃昭然若揭。這歌正面播的歌詞是：" They just can't kill the beast,.........This could be Heaven or this could be Hell,......... We haven't had that spirit（這裏指聖靈）here since 1969. ........... You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."很明顯他說「你」（即聽眾）已無法離開這裏，你己被撒旦捆綁了。事緣在1966年，撒旦教一名祭司叫" Lavey " (Anton Szandor Laven)，在加州三藩市建立了第一間公開的撒旦教會(San Francisco's First Church of Satan)，並在1969年，於California Street中，買了那間名叫" Hotel California"的酒店，作為撒旦教之總部，在裏面獻祭予撒旦。撒旦聖經(The Satanic Bible)於同年出版。 3. Beatles（即披頭四樂隊）解散後，其成員John Lennon（約翰連奴）於1980年錄製一隻碟，叫" Double Fantasy"，其後一歌迷叫Mark Chapman，不斷聽這首歌後，就宣稱好像有邪靈給予他力量、指示與機會，去射殺 John Lennon。於1980年12月他就是在寓所外，被Mark Chapman所槍殺。那首歌在John Lennon的太太Yoko Ono（大野洋子）不斷唱" Kiss Kiss Kiss....."那段背面，竟是Yoko Ono 說：" Satan is Coming ... six six six ... we shot John Lennon！"十分奇怪，這隻碟錄好後，是很安全地放在儲物室中，無人可以進去「改」或「加」任何的說話進去。那兇手Mark Chapman說出事實真相，是撒旦早有計劃，要幹掉Lennon的。這是一個非常重要的警告：Beatles是最早將超覺靜座(TM)，在美國推廣的公眾人物，John Lennon已經付了這個與邪靈打交道的代價。 4. AC-DC's ( Anti-Christ, Devil Children之意思)的一首"Hell's Bells"中，倒轉的歌詞是：" I will mesmerize（催眠）You / but he is Satan / Let me out / Satan has me prisoner." 歌星的道德 歌星的道德之低，令人吃驚，美其名是自由，實是放縱情慾，任意妄為。下面是他們親口所說的話，聽其言而知其人。 1. " There's nothing wrong with going to bed with somebody of your own sex. I just think people should be very free with sex ---- they should draw the line at goats."（公山羊代表罪人）──Elton John（艾頓莊） 2. " I may not go down in history, but I will go down on your little daughter." ---- David Lee Roth 3. " I don't think there is any difference between being good in bed with a girl and being good in bed with a man...... " ------David Bowie他是第一位宣稱自己是雙性戀人，他承認自己好吸食海洛英，玩黑巫術(Black Witchcraft)，招邪靈來保護自己。 4. Beatles也公開宣稱他們是同性戀者。他們宣稱基督教將會消失，因他們比主耶穌更受歡迎。 若你以他們為你的偶像，常唱他們的歌，你的性格、道德就一定像他們。聖經記載，當以色列民不以耶和華為他們的神，而轉向拜其它的偶像時（如巴力），他們的道德生活也如那些偶像一樣邪淫。 邪靈透過音樂歌曲影響人的一些例子 1. 在Beatles狂熱橫掃世界時，在加拿大有一位大公司的女秘書，在一次教會崇拜中，忽然「彭」的一聲仆倒在地上，像一條蛇般在地上爬行，那教會牧師立時認出她正被鬼附。牧師第一次去嘗試趕那鬼，但不成功，他返回後台，禱告神說：「神啊，你的名字大過魔鬼，為什麼我趕不走牠？聖靈對他說：你去斥責那個控制著她的假聖靈。那牧師立刻走出去指著那鬼附的女士說：「假聖靈你出來，為何要附在這人身上？」邪靈藉那女士的口說：「我是一個王子，我是由撒旦的國度來到這地上，我要佔有整個時代的年青人。」最後那鬼被趕了出來。那女士後來証實是Beatles的歌迷，極喜歡聽Beatles的歌。我的教會也曾遇過這類例子。撒旦正試圖用流行歌，去迷惑及控制整個世代的年青人。 2. 在1979年，一位當時只有14歲的少年（現今是牧師），與朋友去參加The Who的演唱會，那次共有二萬多人參加。演唱會開始前的一刻，全場寂靜，會場像有電流在通過，空氣厚得可用刀界開（邪靈彰顯時的特有現象）。演唱會一開始，四周有煙噴出，實是用LSD（迷幻藥）燒出來，每一個歌迷熱切的去委身給整個演唱會。The Who成員竟在台上帶領會眾向撒旦祈禱，台上台下同心向撒旦敬拜。這無異是傳遞靈界的影響力。其間，演唱會之瘋狂，導致有11名歌迷被踩死。The Who從此一夜成名。那演唱會在廁所竟然有LSD交易，不少歌迷到後面充電後，再返出來嘶叫狂野一番。演唱會中的暴力、色情、毒品不是撒旦主要的目的，牠主要是希望享受到人向牠敬拜。 3. 在1981年一位叫Stephen的少年，於十三歲時，開始愛聽 Kiss及AC-DC's樂隊的歌，房裏滿是樂隊的海報，晚上往往邊聽邊睡，不久性恪開始變得自我，沉默寡言，不受父母管教，放學回家就進房裏，塞著耳去聽歌，其後更開始食迷幻藥，幾個月後，他竟然拿起父親的槍，向著自己的腦袋，開了一槍自殺死了。後來，父母在其房間找到一隻AC-DC's的碟，有首歌"Shot to feel"，內容是： "Are you willing keep it coming and pull you head up to me, I'm gonna pull the chicken......（拉手槍的雞）wait to kill, I'm got my gun & I'm ready and I'm gonna fire at will." 只要將一首歌聽數十次，唱數十次，加上電視畫面的幫助，極易將一個本來純良的年青人變成一個濫交、食丸仔、脾氣暴躁、悲觀憤世的大壞蛋。現在你可能漸漸明白，為何香港的卡拉OK那樣流行，已經成為香港每戶人家的必須品；電台出現勁歌台，可以整天不停聽歌；衛星電視的音樂台、有線電視的YMC台，可以自己選擇整天24小時不停看Music Video, Concert等；Walkman、CD & MD機更使你在什麼地方、什麼時候都可以聽個不停。 聖經中關於音樂、唱歌、舞蹈的記載 音樂、唱歌、舞蹈，一直與敬拜神有密不可分的關係。音樂其實是物質界與靈界的一道橋樑，唱歌、聽音樂其實是一種靈界的享受。用音樂、歌曲能敬拜到我們心中所認為的那一位神。現今非洲一些落後的部族，仍會圍著火，打鼓、拍掌、跳舞去敬拜他們的神。而聖經亦有不少這類的記載： 尼布甲尼撒王下令，各方、各國、各族的人，一聽見角、笛、琵、琶、琴、瑟、笙和各樣樂器的聲音，就要府伏敬拜他的金像。（參但3: 4-5）這正是撒但的詭計，牠要全地的人起來拜(Worship)那獸，怎樣拜牠呢？最好透過現代傳播的科技，叫全地的人，以「歌」作為媒介，去敬拜他。你現在明白在啟示錄十三章四至六節，那處記載全地的人（當然有不少基督徒在內），竟都被迷惑了去拜那龍，那龍將牠的權柄給了那獸，那獸就開口說褻瀆神的話。人在電現機前拍掌唱歌敬拜神一樣，其實都是一種向靈界的對象，去敬拜的一種行為。 你口裏所唱的歌，是宣告神是得勝的神，是你生命的主嗎？我們要知道神是忌邪的神，亦是聖潔的神，衪絕不能容忍其百姓在靈裏犯罪。 在1948年，以色列立國，猶太人回歸應許之地，神的聖靈在教會亦開始建立大衛會幕，「敬拜讚美」被復還，不少教會在祟拜中重現朝氣與活力，很多新的敬拜讚美歌出現。

是網上一篇流傳的文章， 很多都網站只註明是轉載自信仰討論區，原稿來源不詳。 所以其真確性很令人懷疑。 不過這篇文又引起我的好奇，於是又翻查一下資料。 翻查網上有關資料，發覺文章主要內容是來自網上一篇名為 Rock Music: The Devil's Advocate文章，由Terry Watkins撰寫， 文章附於一個名為Dial-the-Truth Ministries的傳道網站中。 Source:http://www.av1611.org/rock.html 先講中文流傳版，內容主要是『Rock Music: The Devil's Advocate』， 加上其他傳聞寫成。 文中關於其他歌的『猜測』或『妄想』實在沒有無時間深究， 但既然此Topic關於Hotel California, 我就有D興趣講下； 文中關於： 『Eagles（以印度一邪教名為其樂隊名稱）於1969年的一首在San Francisco's First Church of Satan中所錄的撒旦教名曲" Hotel California』 我查到的資料： １） 首先，Hotel California大碟中所有Tracks，包括HC(Hotel California) 是於1976年月3至10月在加洲洛杉磯的Record Plant及佛洲邁阿密的Criteria Studios錄音。 並非1969年的作品或錄音。 此外，Ealges 成立於1971年，由Linda Ronstadt伴奏樂隊成員， 包括Bernie Leadon、Randy Meisner、Glenn Frey、Don Henley四人組成， 當時作Hotel California基本chord progression的Don Felder仲未加入， 佢地玩D歌還是比較柔情的soft rock及country rock 咁佢地又點會在1969年， 成立Eagles前3年錄了咁劃時代既Hard Rock代表作 ──Hotel California呢？ 2) 『San Francisco's First Church of Satan』應該是指1966年， 由主教Anton Szandor LaVey創立的Church of Satan，雖是『撤旦教會』， 但不太神秘，有官方網頁，甚至中文網頁報導其歷史及消息。 很多知名人士都是與其『有關』，如： actress Jayne Mansfield, musicians Sammy Davis Jr., King Diamond, Marilyn Manson, Boyd Rice, Marc Almond, and journalist Michael Moynihan. 但未聽過有Eagles份。 3) 『Eagles（以印度一邪教名為其樂隊名稱）』 印度是否有個邪教叫Eagles或『老鷹』，大佬，唔駛浪費時間查吧， 有與沒有都沒有關係，唔通中國『白蛇傳』又同WhiteSnake有關？ 文中關於： 『並在1969年，於California Street中， 買了那間名叫" Hotel California"的酒店， 作為撒旦教之總部，在裏面獻祭予撒旦。 撒旦聖經(The Satanic Bible)於同年出版』 我查到的資料： Anton Szandor LaVey是在1956年， 在San Francisco’s Richmond district的California Street買了一間Victorian house， 並將之油上黑漆，其後成為Church of Satan總部。 所以年份不是1969年，是一座維多利亞式建築物， 不知是否一間酒店，若是，應該會說明。 而撒旦聖經才是1969年寫成。 傳聞與事實往往不符。 Source:http://www.churchofsatan.com/Pages/LaVeyBiography.html 其實『Rock Music: The Devil's Advocate』原文關於HC(Hotel California)部份只有一段： 『One of the top songs of the 70's was "Hotel California" by the Eagles. Most people have no idea the song refers to the Church of Satan, which happens to be located in a converted HOTEL on CALIFORNIA street! On the inside of the album cover, looking down on the festivities, is Anton Lavey, the founder of the Church of Satan and author of the Satanic Bible! People say, the Eagles aren't serious, they're just selling records. That's what you think! The Eagles manager, Larry Salter, admitted in the Waco Tribune-Herald, (Feb. 28, 1982) that the Eagles were involved with the Church of Satan! Not surprisingly, one of the Eagles's songs is titled "Have A Good Day in Hell."』 當中唱片內頁的撤旦教主照片及Eagles經理人在1982年承認Eagles與Church of Satan有關。 在2005年2月，Loe Walsh接受In Music We Trust訪問， 談及HC唱片內頁有關撤旦教教主Anton Lavey照片問題： IMWT: Let's settle it: who wrote the "Hotel California" solo, you or Don Felder? JW: I would think that's a joint effort. The lead parts that we trade off, he came up with his, I came up with mine. And the stuff that we played together was worked out together. IMWT: Is it true that, on the cover of Hotel California, late Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey is seen standing in one of the hotel windows? JW: Absolutely not. Any reference to Satan or anything like that is completely in the eyes of whoever is thinking that. That's a reflection of how sick they are. The guy in the window is one of the Elektra/Asylum publicity guys. The lighting just happened to be bad and he was really shy, so he was just peeking around the corner. Source: http://www.inmusicwetrust.com/articles/52h09.htm 原來是一位害羞的唱片公司宣傳人員被誤認是撤旦教主， 令HC這唱片增添神秘。  Joe Walsh:『Hotel California同撤旦教會冇關架！而Solo係我同Don Felder一齊作既，嘻嘻！』 （設計對白by Sim） 至於經理人是否真的有承認Eagles與Church of Satan有關， 因沒1982年2月28日的Waco Tribune-Herald，那便無從稽考了。 不過Don Henley在1987年接受Rolling Stones雜誌訪問時， 已表明HC歌詞表達的與撤旦教無關， 強調內容是以加洲作為美國70年代的一個『微觀世界』， 反映左當時濫藥、自我放縱、時裝、藝術等文化。 Q: 'Hotel California' was widely received as a sharp commentary on Southern California's penchant for superficiality and decadence. Was that your intention? Henley: Actually, I was a little disappointed with how the record was taken, because I meant it in a much broader sense than a commentary about California. I was looking at American culture, and when I called that one song "Hotel California," I was simply using California as a microcosm for the rest of America and for the self-indulgence of our entire culture. It was, to a certain extent, about California, about the excesses out here. But in many instances, as California goes, so goes the nation. Things simply happen out here or in New York first -- whether it's with drugs or fashion or artistic movements or economic trends -- and then work their way toward the middle of America. 其實用你個方法計唔係唔得既. 只係如果成日彈個陣都諗住係第二個 scale. 聽出黎同彈出黎都會無左mode個感覺了. 無錯. F#Phrygian = D major Scale (Start on F# note) 正確來說Phrygian Mode係一個minor mode. 是7個mode入面排得三個. 而佢既formula係 1 . 2b . 3b. 4. 5. 6b. 7b. 個2b音就係佢既color所在. 但其實有問題的. 因為之前講過. Phrygian mode係minor mode... 所以F#會係minor chord 即(F#m).. 所以chord黎計.. 係唔成立的.. 都唔可行tim. 所以首歌應該唔會係行phrygian... 其他可能性我就暫時未諗到. 可能只係我地諗得太覆雜.. 所以希望蔡sir可以幫我地解釋一下.. |

又肯聽我呢個唔識樂理既人亂嗡。  其實大家都同意HC係主要走Bm scale, 不過唔知係咪因為好多粒音環繞在F# note, 所以會有點Phrygian感覺(acoustic版)。 另外HC主要一粒特別COLOR音符似乎是A#, 所以有個F#(7)chord好重要, 個PROGRERSSION尾都係完喺F#chord 另外仲有個不太顯眼的E (7)chord及相關之G# note, 有A#及G#出現, 會唔會係B Natural Minor + B Melodic Minor混合體 ? 因為我唔識咁多樂理, 所以唯有上網搵料。 搵到網上一篇文特別提到Hotel California個Key同dominat V (F#chord)的重要性, 又提到用dominant V唔一定要完全入key, 即可以用F#, 而唔用F#m。 仲分析埋HC個Chorus原來係轉左係D Major Key而唔係Bm Key. 不過因為solo冇用Chorus既progression, 所以我就冇留意。 當中起音既F#-G (V-VI)叫做deceptive cadence(呃人的韻律), 又講左d我似明非明的理論, 我諗你已識, 不過我都post出嚟俾第大家睇下, 當中提及的 V of VII(即A- E的Echord)頗堪玩味: I'm actually writing the bulk of this before my last column goes online (it makes me look like I'm capable of time travel sometimes) and I'm wondering how many people are going to write me about the breakdown we did of "Hotel California." In particular the part where I brought up how the last line of the verse used the fifth to close the phrase and lead up to the chorus? I might as well have been out and out saying that the chorus was going to start on a B minor, right? But we all know that that's wrong. The chorus of "Hotel California" starts out with a big swinging strum of the G major chord, doesn't it? I'll wait here while you go check it out in the TAB files, sheet music or whatever. Yes, it is indeed D major. So did I just goof up big time or what? Well, fortunately for me, there is this thing known as the deceptive cadence. And, also fortunately for me, it lives up to its name. It starts out like the authentic cadence in that it begins with the V chord, but then another chord is substituted for the root. Do you remember the way I freaked you out last time by playing the Ab major chord at the end of "Happy Birthday?" That is a great example of a deceptive cadence. By far the most prevalent deceptive cadence used throughout music history is V to VI. That's pretty intense, isn't it? Either way, V to VI is a great way for a songwriter to throw a phrase out of whack, to send a song spinning off on a wild reckless moment of abandonment. Now let's go back and look at that half verse of "Hotel California" and follow it into the chorus. First with the actual chords: Hotel California - Eagles Bm F# …There she stood in the doorway I heard the mission bells A E I was thinking to myself this could be heaven or this could be hell G D Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way Em F# I heard voices in the corridor thought I heard them say… G D Welcome to the Hotel California Em Bm Such a lovely place such a lovely face G D There's plenty of room in the Hotel California Em F# Any time of year you can find them here… And now with Roman numeral designations: Hotel California - Eagles I V …There she stood in the doorway I heard the mission bells VII V of VII I was thinking to myself this could be heaven or this could be hell VI V of VI (or III) Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way IV V I heard voices in the corridor thought I heard them say… VI III Welcome to the Hotel California IV I Such a lovely place such a lovely face VI III There's plenty of room in the Hotel California IV V Any time of year you can find them here… This time, for sure, the V is leading back to the Bm root that starts the second verse. You can take my word on this. Please believe me… DUAL CITIZENSHIP "Hotel California" poses other interesting problems as well. For instance, what key is it in? B minor, right? How about D major? B is the relative minor of D major, after all. But listen to the first line of the chorus. That cadence alone makes a good argument for D major, so much so that the plagal cadence that follows it (Em to Bm) doesn't have any feeling of finality to it at all, does it? We could suggest, from a music theory standpoint, that without a V to I cadence (in D this would be A to D), the key of D major does not really get a chance to establish itself. This would be a valid point. But it would be better to talk about modulation instead. Music is a flowing, living thing. It rarely stays in the same place very long (Phillip glass notwithstanding). Melodies float over an ever-changing progression of chords. It makes perfect sense then, that the tonality of a song would also be subject to permutation. Let's go back to Walter Piston for a definition: The process involved in changing from one tonal center to another is called modulation. Modulation represents the dynamic state of tonality. 係呀. 一齊分析下音樂其實好開心. 你地網上面可以搵到咁多資料實在好勁.. 比我見到咁大堆英文就頭都暈了... Dominant 7 不能隨便使用同更改的. 你在Minor Key入面見到的F#7 是由B major key入面借過來用的. 或者可以叫modal interchange. 一般在Harmonic Minor Key入面. 都會見到. 但如果真的用mode的時候就一定不能亂更改chord的progression了. 所以F#m. 不能隨便變成F#7. 因為完全變成另一樣野了. 至於另一個機會成日見到有Dom7出現就是Secondary Dominant. 但這首歌不是用這個所以不提及了. 至於E7 chord. 可以話係首歌入面用得最特別既一個chord. 幾時會有機會出現II 7 chord呢. 在Minor Key 入面. Dorian會可以用. Melodic Minor都會. 有人同我說因為首歌其他Chord不太配合Melodic Minor的音階. 所以不會是Melodic Minor. 而A chord - E7 chord也很配合B Dorian的定律. 所以說E7 chord 是Dorian. 而F#7就是Harmonic Minor. 我都同意首歌應該其實只係一首普通Bm key. |

根本無秘密。 歌手樂隊作曲錄音的時候, 只會想著如何令歌曲更完美, 更不知首歌會不會hit, 那還會有心思搞咁多無謂野。 歌中無魔, 但不能阻止有人心中有魔。 魔在心中時, 聽到甚麼, 看到都覺得是魔。 最近看過一個National Geographic探討鬼魂的紀錄片, 話說有一出名的錄音帶錄得鬼的說話:『help me!』 但一再播出來聽, 只是一些無意義的雜音, 你可以好牽強地聽成『help me!』, 又可以聽成『garden』, 或任何你腦中認識的任何詞彙! 總之, 你心中想聽到甚麼,便會聽到甚麼! 自古以來,好多人依然喜歡聽穿鑿附會的故事, 多過去尋根究底。 所以這些穿鑿附會的故事會一直流傳下去。 聽唔聽流行曲, 同魔唔魔毫無關係, 只有個人鐘唔鐘意聽。
