I love this song too. Some (many) years ago, we entered the final in some singing contest singing this song. I played bass and sang one of the verse. Good old days.
Was it Paul McCartney who played bass for this song in the original LP verson?

Dear Sampson, the original bass on the LP's of Carolina in my mind i think is play by 'Lee Sklar' , coz 'Paul' might be quite busy in that time of the year (1968).

James Taylor 從 'smile a little smile for me' 到今天，給我的印像，總是一個感性的浪人，他懶洋洋、多愁善感，獨行但卻是唱 'King' 姐的 'up on the roof' 最好的一個（我認為）。

Taylor 先生在盛怒及最迷失（Carly 時代） 時都是軟綿綿，我覺得他最重節奏感的都不過是 'Fire and Rain' 的幾下鼓和 'Steamroller' 幾下粗口，ka ka ka ka!

"Carolina In My Mind"就應是喜歡James Taylor朋友們必會喜歡的一首歌曲，也如Dear Tim所講，有份在今年5月House Party唱歌的James的Seenlum樂隊的我們香港製做"Carolina In My Mind"版本，當年就常可在電台聽到，歌神Sam Hui都也曾有錄過這首'正'歌........

Dear Sampson就應說得對，在1968年隻身去到英國London的20歲James Taylor，在Peter & Gordon的Peter Asher的推介下，就是Beatles樂隊的唱片公司Apple Records所簽的第一個外國歌手，他所出的第一隻同名L.P."James Taylor"內的原裝"Carolina In My Mind"就應是Paul McCartney彈Bass及George Harrison和唱，這首歌也是James Taylor思念他在North Carolina老家的作品.......

這張唱片不大成功後，James Taylor就跑回美國去，不久就和他的監製拍擋Peter Asher一同簽約Warners華納唱片，也就開始了傳期的James Taylor年代........

到了1976年，華納就推出了非常賣得的James Taylor - Greatest Hits，而當中的兩首Apple Records時代的"Carolina In My Mind"及George Harrison用了來做經典歌曲"Something"首句歌詞的"Something In The Way She Moves"就是從新再錄音的，也如Dear Mel所為講，這個Re - Recording就是Lee Sklar彈Bass的吧.......



在2004年的7月，我們也曾分享過James Taylor的這張Greatest Hits唱片呢.....

這些年來，Michael叔叔無論和本地或外國的朋友們分享音樂時，都不約而同地有兩點是大家所認同的.........第一，就是不知怎的60、70年代的歌曲及歌手就是那麼的Everlasting. 第二，就是Live Music Is Better，我們欣賞的就是那些能寫，能彈，能唱的Singer-Songwriter音樂唱作人.........

事實上，一直我們常談論的朋友，Simon & Garfunkel， Jim Croce， Don McLean， John Denver， Bob Dylan， Crosby，Stills，Nash & Young........都是在40年代出生,在60、70年代成名的一班真正能寫，能彈，能唱的Singer-Songwriter.......當然還有這位非常傳奇，其中一個可以寫很多，講很多的傳奇歌手James Taylor.......


今年已56歲的James Taylor能寫能唱，他唱歌帶默滄桑味，我們最認識他的可能就是1971年的'You've Got A Friend'，James Taylor也是憑這首Carole King作的'You've Got A Friend'得到1971年Grammy Awards格林美獎他的第一個Grammy，最佳流行曲男歌手Best Pop Vocal Performance,Male，在同一屆的Grammy Awards，Carole King也是憑這首'You've Got A Friend'得到最佳歌曲Song Of The Year，同一首歌，兩個版本，在同一屆Grammy得獎也成為一時佳話。

James Taylor在1968年推出他的第一張個人唱片'James Taylor'，是由唱紅'500 Miles'的'Peter & Gordon'的Peter Asher做他的監製，也是Beatles的唱片公司Apple Records的第一個簽約的外來歌手。Peter Asher跟著的十幾年和James Taylor合作很多，Peter Asher的另一張皇牌就是Country天后Linda Ronstandt。James Taylor受歡迎的歌曲就是多得很，有Carolina In My Mind，Sweet Baby James，Fire And Rain，Country Road，Mexico，Handy Man及當然的You've Got A Friend，我們可在1976年的James Taylor-'Greatest Hits'找到這歌曲，但是那隻好'正'的'Handy Man'就要在2000年James Taylor-'Greatest Hits Volume Two'才可找到，'Handy Man'也是幫James Taylor第二次得到1977年Grammy Awards格林美獎最佳流行曲男歌手Best Pop Vocal Performance,Male。

在2002年2月，James Taylor在第44屆GrammyAward格林美獎憑原本1972年One Man Dog大碟內的一首'Don't Let Me Be Lonley Tonight'，用Jazz風格2002版本再唱出得到Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male最佳流行曲男歌手大獎.......這次己是James Taylor第三次得到此大獎.........而James Taylor的這首得獎歌曲'Don't Let Me Be Lonley Tonight'就不是來自他自己的大碟，而就是來自色士風大師Michael Brecker的大碟Nearness Of You : The Ballad Book...........

在今年2004年2月8月晚上在美國L.A.的Staples Center第46屆格林美獎頒獎禮James Taylor就是和著名的Bluegrass/Country女歌手Alison Krauss憑'How's The World Treating You'又一次得到另一個的格林美獎，得到'Best Country Collaboration with Vocals' 這一個獎項，這首正歌'How's The World Treating You'是來自一張一大班歌手向經典Country二人組合Louvin Brothers致敬的一張Tribute Album – 'Livin'，Lovin'，Losin''內的一首合唱歌.......

拉得一手好Violin及歌聲很正的Alison Krass，也許有些朋友會記得就是在2000年Yo-Yo Ma馬友友、Mark O'Connor及Edgar Meyer的得獎大碟Applachian Journey'內唱出'Slumber My Darling'的女歌手，James Taylor也就是在這同一大碟Applachian Journey唱出那首正歌'Hard Times Come Again No More'，James Taylor 及Alison Krass當年就是幫Yo-Yo Ma 、Mark O'Connor 、Edgar Meyer三人大碟Applachian Journey得到'Best Classical Crossover Album'這個Grammy Award格林美獎，估不到在幾年後James Taylor 及Alison Krass又再次正式合作得到Grammy Award獎項.........

James Taylor也有一個很特別的地方，就是他曾和很多歌手合唱，而歌曲也很受歡迎，例如和前妻Carly Simon合唱的'Mockingbird'及'Devoted To You'，和Art Garfunkel合唱的'Crying In The Rain'，和Paul Simon，Art Garfunkel三人合唱的'What A Wonderful World'，和Dire Straits的Mark Knopfler合唱的'Sailing To Philadelphia'，和Linda Ronstadt合唱的'I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine'，和Patricia Kaas合唱的'Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight'，和Milton Nascimento合唱的'Only A Dream In Rio'，和Marc Cohn合唱的'Perfect Love'........
