Re: Michael叔叔很多謝'青韻民歌網' 非常感謝Michael叔叔又給我們"分享"了他的一份感觸，的確：Webradio百多集的"Folk星高唱"內，就見証了由70年代開始，一群熱愛民歌的朋友們所走過的一段青蔥歲月；到了後來，這條路上雖然是滿佈泥濘，但他們從沒想過要放棄，仍然無悔無由地踽踽獨行，去開墾那杳無人跡的一片桃花源-----木結他六條弦內藏有幾多心事？只有他們自己才知道。
至於"自由廣場"，同樣令人痛惜。樂友們幾年來一點一滴的灌溉，內裏就積存了許許多多中西民歌的珍貴資料，這些資料如果有系統整理出來，真的可以寫一篇民歌在香港發展的概況的論文。 而當中有些朋友們的留言，都是有骨有肉的文字；我就記得Michael叔叔談過舊日堅道明愛中心民歌晚會的往事，我看後興奮了好久好久。去年自由廣場"突然死亡"，心中就有一份傷逝之情。 我自己很慚愧，也曾在自由廣場內寫了不少粗疏可笑的文字，因為是隨想隨寫，也沒有存檔。剛剛打開了電腦的文字檔，找到了一篇從自由廣場內複制下載的文章，那是Cliff Tse的一篇留言，亦是我唯一一篇從自由廣場內儲存起來的文字。文章最後的部份雖然並不完整，但還是值得大家一讀再讀： Dear Uncle Michael, PPM, Pather,豬肉榮,KC, Daniel, Sarah Li, Christine, PhantomGTR心言 and music lovers :...After Christmas, that means the year 2000 will be gone in the next few days. May I wish everybody here having a prosperous New Year. Those studying in schools having a good results and Uncle Michael's Radio 28 are having a good rating and increasing number of audiences over the world. There are no definitions for folk songs but I can say that folk songs can serve many purposes in the following ways (1) Folk songs are used to unite the nation: no one can deny that every American is proud to sing Woody Guthrie's """"This Land Is Your Land"""". (2) Folk Songs can promote the spirit of freedom: The old Czech Government was afraid of songs sang by Joan Baez over a concert like """"Donna Donna"""". They were afraid that these songs would bring liberalism to the minds of the people. They even sent secret police in the concert to guard against any upheaval that might occur (source: from discovery in a 3-CD set of Joan Baez). (3)Careful selection of good folk song for commercials brings to product success. I am quoting one example here: """"I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing"""" by The New Seekers is having its enduring effects during Christmas all over the world. (4) Folk Songs are also used for protest on wars: there are many protest songs like Bob Dylan's """"Blowing In The Wind"""" that and may bring politicians be alerted to wars. This songs has 9 questions to ask: ARE WEB FRIENDS HERE BE ABLE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS?. Likewise, Peter, Paul & Mary, Joan Baez are also famous for their protest songs like """"Gone The Rainbow"""" etc. (5) Folk songs and dances are to bring people to share the sorrow and joy after harvest. There are many Jewish or Israeli folk songs are of this kind like """"Hava Nagila"""" (6) Some songs are telling of a story like The Covens """"One Tin Soldier"""". Strange war started without reason like the 8-year """"Iran and Iraq"""" were lastly settled that left with so many deaths and wounds. (7) Some songs tell theory: Cat Stevens' """"Father and Son"""", Peter, Paul & Mary's """"Lemon Tree"""". Simon & Garfunkel's """"El Condor Pasa"""" particularly inspire me in which working hard is the golden rule to be succeeded, like the lyrics said """"I'd rather feel the earth beneath my feel"""". (8) Folk songs share our sorrows: Simon and Garfunkel's """"Bridge Over Troubled Water"""", Carole King/James Taylor's """"You've Got A Friend"""". These songs will work a little bit in bringing encouragement when we are down and out. (9) Folk songs are used for fund-raising campaign. Remember the Chinese version """"Bridge Over Troubled Water""""? on the fund-raising campaign on the flooding on China last 10 years . (10) Of course, there are many love songs: I am quoting Uncle Michael's recommendation of a song """"I Wanna Be Free"""" by the Monkees. (11)""""Amazing Grace"""" and also a typical Gospel and folk song that how the writer of this song changed his life. . (12) """"The Battle Hymn of Republic"""", """"We Shall Overcome"""" are patriotic songs that one might have heard and seen people singing these songs after the Berlin Wall are torn down or when dictators were being overthrown. (13) It is also an efficient way to learn languages through Mandarin and English, I am quoting豬肉榮: Seals & Crofts' """"Windflowers"""".
